IMPORTANT NOTICES:

SMALL GROUPS FOR TEAMS

Small group TEAMS calls will occur straight after whole group calls; Mr Wignall/Miss Hussain will ask certain children to remain on the call. These children must stay on the whole group call whilst all other teams have left and the small group session will begin.  For example; Monday’s Year 1 TEAMS call: 10.30am-11am, at 11am- specific children will stay on with Miss Hussain/Mr Wignall whilst the rest of the year group leave the call.

*PLEASE CAN FRIDAY’S ENGLISH WRITING (set of instructions on how to make a marmalade sandwich) BE SENT TO MR WIGNALL BY FRIDAY LUNCHTIME *

Alternatively, If you would like to print the worksheets, you could stick them into your home learning book. For Maths, we are continuing this week with our work on addition and subtraction this term. Please find the videos and worksheets below. You can answer the questions in your Home Learning book if you prefer or print the work sheet. PLEASE NOTE: There is a link to the video on the 1st page of the power point.

For English, we are focusing on the book “A bear called Paddington”

Reading: This week we are going to look at a fiction story called ‘The Smartest Giant in Town.’

Spellings for this week can be accessed on Spelling Shed. Ask a grown up to test you on your spellings on Friday.

**Apologies for any mix up with spellings. They should now match up with spelling shed. **

Monday: (Teams call- 10.30am – 11am)

Maths: Subtraction- not crossing 10

PowerPoint/ WS / Answers

Phonics (o-e) : Work your way through the PowerPoint and complete the activity/worksheet.

English: LO: I can find the features of instructions and identify bossy verbs.

Reading: L.O: I can talk about the main events in a story.

This week we are going to look at a fiction story called ‘The Smartest Giant in Town.’

Discuss: What is fiction? Follow on with a shared reading of the story- Do they like the story? What do they like about it? What happened in the story/what was your favourite part? What are the describing words called? Can you find any adjectives in our story? What is the purpose of a story? (To entertain)

Complete a worksheet: there is two to choose from (second sheet is slightly harder)

PowerPoint/ WS / Answers

Phonics (e-e) : Work your way through the PowerPoint and complete the activity/worksheet.

English: LO: I can plan a set of instructions to tell Paddington how to have a bath.

  • Talk through the steps together then create a plan ready to write a set of instructions tomorrow. First,  think of a good title for our instructions. How do the titles normally start? How to… have a bath?
  • Now let think about the equipment we might need. What does equipment mean?
  • The things we will need to have a bath. What sorts of things will we need?
    • A bath
    • A plug
    • Hot and cold water
    • Bubble bath
    • Soap/Shower Gel
    • Shampoo/Conditioner
    • Sponge/Body Puff
    • Towel
  • Go through the PowerPoint,  show the child how you would complete the plan.
  • The child then completes their plan: worksheet

Reading: I can recognise adjectives in ‘The Smartest Giant in Town.’

Read through the story.

  1. What is an adjective?
  2. Why does the author use adjectives in stories?
  3. Were there any adjectives in our story?
  4. Read through the story again, the children need to listen for adjectives as you read.
  5. Ask the children to pick out words from the story that were adjectives, which they like.
  6. Can the children suggest any other adjectives, which the author could have used to describe the giant?

Complete a worksheet: there is two to choose from (second sheet is slightly harder)

Geography: We are learning the names of the four countries and their capitals in the United Kingdom and labelling them on a map. We are also finding where we live on the map of the United Kingdom.

Watch the video, pause after each country is discussed and label the country and capital city on the map.

Maths: Subtraction- crossing 10- (counting back)

PowerPoint / WS / Answers

Phonics (u-e) : Work your way through the PowerPoint and complete the activity/worksheet.

English: LO: I can write a set of instructions to tell Paddington how to have a bath.

  • Today, children will use their plans to write a set of instructions to tell Paddington how to have a bath. If we include all the things we need to then surely he can’t go wrong then!
  • Recap plan from yesterday and what was included.
  • Show the child your example of the first instruction.
  • Using the worksheet as a format and your plan from yesterday, write a set of instructions for Paddington about how to have a bath.

Reading: I can recall the main events in the correct order and use the story to answer questions.

  1. What was our story about?
  2. Which was your favourite part of the story? Why?
  3. What are the describing words called that the author used in our story?
  4. Why do you think that the giant gave away all of his new clothes?
  5. Why did the giant feel sad when he sat by the shop?
  6. How did the giant feel at the end of the story?

Complete the worksheet.

Geography: I can draw a map of the different areas of school.

  • Use the Google Earth link and label the schools areas on the worksheet (map).
  • Keywords: Treetops, Carpark, KS1 building, KS2 building, play ground, field.

Ask a grown up to help you draw a map of the school with the different areas in your home learning book. (Use google earth/google maps to help)

Maths: Subtraction- crossing 10- 1

PowerPoint/ WS / Answers

Phonics (e-e and u-e): Work your way through the PowerPoint and complete the activity/worksheet.

English: LO: I can plan a set of instructions on how to make a marmalade sandwich.

  • Why not make your own marmalade sandwiches, and then write some instructions to explain how we did it, after we eat them of course!
  • First let’s think of a title… How to make a marmalade sandwich.
  • Now let’s think about the equipment we used.
  • Bread
  • Butter
  • Knife
  • Marmalade
  • Plate
  • Napkin

– The child then uses these ideas to complete their plan, they can use the worksheet as a format.

Phonics:  A video from Miss Hussain recapping the three different sounds from the week (o-e, e-e, u-e)- write down the sounds and words as Miss Hussain goes through them.

English: LO: I can write a set of instructions on how to make a marmalade sandwich.
